Bay News Network, Visakhapatnam: GITAM Foundation Award is instituted with the donation of Dr. M.V.V.S.Murthi with a corpus of Rs.3 Crores. A part of the interest earned is presented on GITAM Foundation Day every year in recognition of the exemplary services rendered by an eminent person in the chosen field to the benefit of the society at large. GITAM 2012 Foundation day awardee is Dr. M.S.Swaminathan, “Father of the Green Revolution in India”.

Addressing the media G.Subramanyam, Vice Chancellor, GITAM University informed that GITAM Foundation Annual Award is aimed at recognizing personalities for their path breaking and seminal contribution in the fields of Education, Economy, Science, Literature, Fine Arts, PUblic Service, etc., One of the eminent personalities so chosen in the aforesaid fields is invited and the contributions of the eminent person are made known to the larger public by way of public lecture and GITAM Foundation Award is presented consisting of a plaque and a cheque for Rs.10 lakhs.

Earlier Foundation Day Awardees are Dr.Sanjaya Baru, Former media advisor to the Prime Minister and Editor, Business Standard for 2010 and Justice B.Sudershan Reddy, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India for 2011.
