Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is
spearheading the green building movement in
the country since 2001. IGBC has launched
green hospitals rating system to facilitate
implementation of green features right from
the design, construction and operation &
Maintenance hospitals, according to a press
release.
In this regard, IGBC has launched series of
awareness programmes on green healthcare
facilities across 7 cities. The first
programme, was organised in Vizag on 25
April, according to  press release by
B.Srinivas Satish, Deputy Directr & Head-
CII, Visakhapatnam.
The objective of the session was to create
awareness on concepts of green hospital
design and share the best practices.
Dr Murali Krishna V, immediate past Chairman
CII Vizag and MD, Mahatma Gandhi Cancer
hospital & Research Institute indicated the
importance of designing & constructing green
hospitals. He also requested all existing &
new hospitals in Vizag to go green.

Chapter emphasised on importance of infection
control systems in hospitals. He further
explained that that the incremental cost of
the green buildings has come down to 2-3%
progressively with the increase in demand and
easy availability of green products,
materials and other equipment’s
The programme was well attended by around 40
plus doctors, hospital administrators,
architects and MEP consultants.
