Purandeswari Inaugrates Lions Blood Bank

6_1Bay News Network, Visakhapatnam: Lions Blood Bank established by Lions Club of Visakhapatnam Blood Bank Trust in Lions Community Hall, Ramnagar was inaugurated by Dr. D. Purandeswari, Honourable Minister of State for Human Resources Development, Govt. of India on Sunday. This is new Blood Bank in Visakhapat-nam, where the need for blood for patients, particularly accident victims is ever increasing. Less than 5 percent of the eligible population only donates blood because of various misconceptions. As a result, many times the blood banks reach critically low level of blood. Except in the State of West Bengal and Gujarat, there is a severe shortage of Blood and people are dying of non availability of blood in critical times. A revolution should be brought about in voluntary donations. In order to drive away the misconceptions and to increase the availability of blood, the blood bank trust is planning various programmes to motivate and encourge Youth to donate blood. About 25 Lions Clubs in Visakhapatnam will participate in this programme and support the Lions Blood Bank.

The Lions Blood Bank will work in the initial period from 8 am to 5 pm in course of time it will work for 24 hours. Voluntary donors between the age group 18-60 are requested to donate blood anytime during the working hours. Only 350 ml out of 5-6 liters of blood existing in the body will be drawn through all safety measures. The donated blood will be recouped by the body within 24 hours.

Donors can resume their daily regular activities after 30 minutes of donation. A healthy person can donate blood every three months. There are people, who have donated blood 100 times

Another service activity of the Blood Bank Trust is the establishment of Lions Jeevanadhara Pharmacy in Lions Community Hall, Ramnagar. This Pharmacy was inaugurated by Ravi Uday Bhaskar, General Manager, Jeevanadhara Project, A.P. Medical Services and Infra Structure  Development Corporation and Assistant Director,  A.P. Drug Control Administration. In this pharmacy generic medicines will be sold at reasonable prices, that can be affordable by poor people.

With these two activities, Lions club of Visakhapatnam will be a centre of service in Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas.
District Governor Lion D. V. S. Raju, Vice District Governor II elect Lion D. Thirumala Rao, Chairman of the Blood Bank Trust Lion Ashok Kumar Agarwal, Lion P. V. Chandra Sekar, President of the club lion Rupeesh Kumar Gupta were present.
