Sale of Oxytocin Injections (veternary) banned : DCA

Bay News Network, Visakhapatnam: The investigation of the Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Vizag District reveals that Oxytocin Injection (human) is misused for Veternary purpose due to the ban on the sale of Oxytocin Injections (veternary) through medical stores . Some milk men are misusing the Oxytocin by injecting it to milch cattle in order to raise milk production. The harmone  may cause irreparable damage to cattle if injected over a period of time, besides effecting the health of the Consumer.

The DCA detected some distributors supplying Oxytocin Injections to retail chemists in rural regions of Vizag and Vizianagaram District to enable them to sell to the milk men. The Drugs Control Administration collected purchase / sale particulars of  the said injections from thg concerned distributors and a special drive is under process to nab the violators and show cause notices were issued to some of the offenders.

The DCA severelly  warned the distributors of  Oxytocin Injection not to sell the chemists of remote areas where the need of Oxytocin Injection is very minimal.

The retail chemists are directed not to sell Oxytocin Injection to milkmen. if they found selling, serious action will be taken against them. The milk men are instructed not to use Oxytocin Injection at the interest of the cattle and public, informed the DCA Assistant Director, Ravi Uday Bhaskar in a press release here on                  Saturday.
