Response from Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakr-ishnudu to the request for taking up the Babu Jagjivan Ram Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi project and to take up a lift at Purushottampa-tnam as the first stage to provide water for Visakha-patnam city, its industries and irrigation, has been positive and sincere, former Minister and MP Konathala Rama-krishna said after meeting  Ramakrishnudu and Minis-ters Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu and Kollu Ravindra at the Circuit House here on Thursday.
Ramakrishna along with other members of the Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi Sadhana Samiti met the Ministers as part of Samiti’s campaign to realise the project which would irrigate eight lakh acres and provide drinking water to 1200 villages in north coastal districts, before the Polavaram project is completed.
During the discussion Ramakrishnudu said the right canal of Polavaram project has to be taken up with State government funds while Centre funds the left canal, which brings water to East Godavari and Uttarandhra. He said the left canal would be completed as soon as possible, most likely by 2017 and as a first step the Cabinet has approved it and sanctioned Rs. 147 crore. Ramakrishna wanted tendering process started immediately. Work across the National Highway would not be a problem and 300 families living in a hamlet near Tuni have also been convinced to move to another area. The major industries like the steel plant, NTPC, HPCL and also navy can fund the Pusushottapuram lift since they need water, they felt. The Ministers and former Minister also felt the need to make tanks ready to receive water when the lift is completed.
Ayyanna Patrudu later said the preparatory work on lift has commenced and would be completed soon.
Ttalking to reporters, Ramakrishna said the people wanted water and he is supporting their demand. There is no space for politics here. He was happy that the State government has taken up the left canal work seriously after the agitation started. Mr. Ramakrishna denied that he was joining the Telugu Desam and he met the Finance Minister and others to press for the Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi.
Ramakrishna later met HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and submitted a detailed report on the need for the project and the early completion of Polavaram project.
